Thursday Throwdown: Batman #162 vs. Ultimate Wolverine #11

Welcome back to the ring for this week's Thursday Throwdown! Tonight, we have two masters of the shadows facing off: a Dark Knight battling his entire family in an emotional spectacle, and a mind-wiped weapon of war unleashing a catastrophic psychic bomb. Get ready for a battle that will shake both the DC and Marvel Universes to their cores!

In the Left Corner: Batman #162

Stepping into the squared circle with cinematic flair and non-stop action, it’s the visually stunning bruiser, Batman #162! This book marks the penultimate chapter of the H2SH storyline, a sequel to the iconic Hush saga, brought to you by the legendary team of writer Jeph Loeb and artist Jim Lee. The main character, Batman (Bruce Wayne), is a tactical genius forced into a nightmare scenario: fighting his entire Bat-Family—including Nightwing, Catwoman, and Damian—all of whom have been turned against him by the manipulations of the mastermind, Hush. The style of this fight is a high-octane spectacle of gorgeous, rain-soaked action sequences, with the art being so "jaw-dropping" it virtually carries the issue. This round is a chaotic chess game where Hush is playing all the pieces against the Dark Knight, forcing him to use a newly activated Batmobile defense to escape a trap where Bane and Joker are waiting for him.

In the Right Corner: Ultimate Wolverine #11

And in the opposite corner, a visceral, adamantium-laced soldier fighting against his own programming, it’s the tragic force of Ultimate Wolverine #11! This comic, part of the new Ultimate Universe of Earth-6160, is written by Chris Condon with dynamic art by Alessandro Cappuccio. The main character, Wolverine, is the ultimate weapon, a mind-controlled agent of the Maker's Council and the Eurasian Republic, forced into the role of the Winter Soldier. This fight is one of the most impactful in the new Ultimate Universe, centering on the horrific counterattack by Magik and Colossus, who unleash a devastating "Psychic Bomb"—revealed to be the weaponized brain of Ultimate Charles Xavier. The tension is palpable as Wolverine races to protect the newly reunited members of The Opposition, a moment that leaves him utterly devastated and alone by the final panel. This issue is a masterclass in high-stakes dread, setting up the finale of the series and the impending Ultimate Endgame event.
