Thursday Throwdown: DC / Marvel: Batman / Deadpool #1 vs. Exquisite Corpses #7

Welcome back to the ring for this week's Thursday Throwdown! Tonight, we have a true clash of concepts! In one corner, the biggest crossover event in decades, a metafictional explosion of fan-service and legendary creators. And in the other, a bloody, high-stakes horror phenomenon barreling toward its shocking conclusion. Get ready for this one-of-a-kind main event!

In the Left Corner: DC / Marvel: Batman / Deadpool #1

Stepping out from the folds of reality, it's the chaotic newcomer, DC / Marvel: Batman / Deadpool #1! This rookie fighter is a massive, meta-soaked one-shot event, uniting the two biggest publishers for the first time in decades. The main characters are the World's Greatest Detective, Batman (Bruce Wayne), and the Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool (Wade Wilson), whose clashing philosophies—one trauma and justice, the other chaos and the fourth wall—are forced to confront a threat that questions their very existence as fictional constructs. This fight is a cosmic car crash masterminded by the legendary Grant Morrison and artist Dan Mora, whose main story reveals the universes are merging because the cosmic entities Eternity and Kismet got together. The rookie also features four powerful backup stories, including John Constantine and Doctor Strange, Nightwing and Laura Kinney/Wolverine, and Harley Quinn and the Hulk, making it a spectacular, content-packed card.

In the Right Corner: Exquisite Corpses #7

And in the opposite corner, a visceral, ongoing horror phenomenon, it's the seasoned contender, Exquisite Corpses #7! This title is the brutal seventh round of a 13-issue maxi-series from the masterminds of horror, James Tynion IV and Michael Walsh. The main characters are the killers and civilians of Oak Valley, Maine, caught in a deadly, Halloween-night game where twelve of the world's deadliest psychopaths, sponsored by America's ultra-rich, fight to the death to crown a new ruling family. This issue is a brutal turning point, throwing an "explosive rager" at "The Pit," where survivors and killers alike are making their way for a major upheaval as the series barrels into its final act. The fighting style is a blend of action-horror and social satire, with this issue focusing on dynamic, well-choreographed action between the unique assassins like the Fox Mask Killer and The Lone Gunman. This contender promises an escalating sense of imminent dread and a finale that will deliver a shocking twist to the uber-rich watching the deadly competition.
