The Main Event!
Thursday Throwdown: Absolute Batman #14 vs. Absolute Wonder Woman #14
Welcome back to the arena for this week's Thursday Throwdown, where the stakes have never been higher! Tonight, we feature two climactic bouts from the DC Absolute Universe. In one corner, the Dark Knight is in a brutal, no-holds-barred cage match against a monstrous, growing enemy. And in the other, the Last Amazonian is battling the very foundation of her world, facing off against an opponent no hero is qualified to fight. Let's meet the main event fighters!
In the Left Corner: Absolute Batman #14
Stepping into the lights of a stadium like a true cage fighter, it’s the fierce, relentless tactician, Absolute Batman #14! This title is the powerful conclusion to the second arc of the series, cementing its place as a bold reimagining of Gotham's mythology. The main character, Batman (Bruce Wayne), is the 6'6", 275-pound "do-it-yourselfer" and city engineer, a truly imposing, scary figure who relies on engineering and sheer will more than billions of dollars. This issue is his final battle against Bane, a savage, reality-warping showdown that is "as epic as a one-on-one fight can get". Batman's fighting style is brutal, involving axes, dropping buildings on his opponent, and driving a car into him, all while Bane is constantly growing and regrowing body parts in a "gruesome" display of body horror. Writer Scott Snyder and artist Nick Dragotta deliver a stunning, cinematic scale, with flashbacks to Waylon Jones's boxing matches adding an emotional heart to Bruce's journey, proving this Batman always has his friends' backs.
In the Right Corner: Absolute Wonder Woman #14
And in the opposite corner, a mystical warrior fighting a battle against the divine itself, it’s the philosophical powerhouse, Absolute Wonder Woman #14! This book is a giant leap forward for the character, concluding a two-part guest arc by visionary artist Matías Bergara. The main character, Wonder Woman (Diana of Themyscira), is the warrior raised in Hell by the witch Circe. To save the world from an "all-new supernatural threat" that she is "uniquely unqualified to solve," Diana must literally descend into the Earth to seek assistance from the oldest and deepest of gods: Gaia (Mother Earth). This round is one of the "best visual scenes in the entire series," where Diana essentially has to debate a being older than humanity and convince Earth itself that her path is righteous. Writer Kelly Thompson sets the stage for the first major crossover event in the Absolute Universe, with Diana ultimately accepting a "rebirth of sorts" and preparing to meet the other heroes.

As we dissect this week's comic book releases, it's evident that the field remains diverse and dynamic. While some titles shine brightly with creativity, others remind us that not every story is ready for the spotlight.
