Thursday Throwdown: Batman #4 vs. Ultimate X-Men #22

Welcome back to the arena for this week's Thursday Throwdown! Tonight, we have a strategic, noir-tinged match in the DC corner, as the Dark Knight faces a sprawling criminal conspiracy. In the Marvel corner, a definitive, high-stakes final showdown of psychic power and unstoppable will! Let's get ready for the fight!

In the Left Corner: Batman #4

Stepping into the ring with a sleek, spy-movie finesse, it’s the tactical crime-fighter, Batman #4! The main character, Batman (Bruce Wayne), is drawn into a new investigation by writer Matt Fraction and artist Jorge Jiménez, chasing after Anarky and uncovering a criminal conspiracy so vast it threatens to change the game for crime across Gotham and the entire world. This fight is all about dismantling a high-level organization, with the key player being the new and intimidating villain, The Minotaur. The Minotaur is set up as a calculating, seven-fingered master strategist whose threat level surpasses even the Joker in terms of secret control and influence, bringing the major crime families, from Romans to Romanians, under his iron fist. This contender's fighting style is intelligent and investigative, forcing Bruce Wayne to get close to Dr. Annika Zeller as part of his investigation into the new criminal underworld.

In the Right Corner: Ultimate X-Men #22

And in the opposite corner, a visually stunning warrior fighting a fated, psychic duel, it’s the unstoppable force of Ultimate X-Men #22! This book is the final showdown of a core conflict that has driven the series from the beginning, masterfully written and drawn by visionary creator Peach Momoko. The main character, Armor (Hisako Ichiki), a young mutant who can manifest a psionic exoskeleton, is facing her final, climactic confrontation with Shadow King (Shinobu Kageyama). Kageyama, who views Armor as his equal and is obsessed with her, unleashes overwhelming psychic power against her and her friends. This fight is a blockbuster of "horrific" and dramatic full and double-page splashes, where Armor must use a good handle on her powers to protect her team from the Shadow King's stringy, elastic shadow-powers. The battle, which delivers shocking moments, brings emotional closure to a struggle that has defined Armor's journey in the new Ultimate Universe.
